Hi.my w140 s600 seems like the left bank is not firing up and takes kind of long to start at times..could this be the ignition module causing it?

Do you hear your fuel pump coming on when you turn the key to run? Could be fuel pump if you don't hear the whine/hum. Could also be anti theft system.

If you are lean on the left side that rules out a spark issue so you either have a injector cutting out or a vacuum leak on that side.

are you getting power to coils, if not it could be the ignition switch, one major sign of a bad switch is dash lights go off. vehicle may crank but not start,no current to fuel pump, stalling, failure to start.

Check the MAP sensor. To see if this is the problem, assuming that the Jeep won't start but is turning over, unplug the MAP sensor and then plug it back in. If you can start it now, the MAP sensor needs to be replaced. The MAP sensor is located in the engine compartment, where the firewall meets the body at the top of the engine compartment, on the driver's side. Good luck. check map sensor first!

Is it a good blue spark you observed? If so, it wouldn't be the ignition module. A blue snapping spark rules out the ignition as a problem.
Throttle body injection or multi-port? If TBI, you could easily see the cone pattern from the injector when cranking. If multi-port, would be hard to hear the injectors clicking (opening) without a stethoscope. But you could test the injector circuit.
Any other problems developed recently? If engine has compression and timing is good, spark and fuel (and air) is all it needs to start.

How to replace ignition tumbler on 2000 ml320 mercedes benz?

i would assume that there is a hardened steel sleeve "VERY HARD" that surrounds the barrel the same as the W140 model. the repair shop will have trouble cutting this off , like the novices at diesel motors in perth western australia. and will probably want to charge you around $3,000 AUD to replace the key and barrel. which collapsed in my case. jamming the key in the ignition. not bad for a vehicle that had cost $219,000 AUD , and had covered 220,000 km, when there countless thousands of 40 year old toyotas and holdens running around with the original ignition barrels. anyway , digressing , the switch that sits behind the actual barrel lock will no doubt fail not long after u change the barrel also. because i would say that the junk they manufacture for these over rated piles of trash (still riding on the reputation of their 1970's products, is about the same quality level as cheap rubbish componentry used in the W140 . "google search for W140 wiring harness there s a blog with a list of owners in the US with failed wiring insulation causing the copper wires to short out and in many cases cause engine fires. manufactured by Bosch to MB specification to be biodegradable, what a totally brilliant place to start , crucial electronic components, with severely limited life from the start.! , the ignition switch doesn't need to be cut out of the steel dash frame like in earlier models, and is not particularly hard to remove however the stealer will still try to slug u around a grand and tell u its a HUGE job. a friend of mine had my ignition barrel and switch out in 20 minutes after the switch behind the barrel failed after the dealer installed a new key and barrel and charged me 6 hours or so at $120/ hour.

Any light's lit on the insturment cluster ? Anti-theft system problem . An DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in any module on the vehicle ? Do you know what a Totally integrated power module is ? Chrysler , Dodge , Jeep has real problems with these . it's a electronic control module and all kind of electrical problems happen . Plus ground cable problems under or near the battery .

Insert each wire on the proper terminal of the ignition coil. Ensure that the coil boots are fully seated and both locking tabs are engaged. The terminals are identified on the ignition coils. Install wires as shown in the illustration. The 2.3L firing order is 1-3-4-2 for both ignition coil assemblies.

Distributorless Ignition System In the distributorless ignition system (DIS), all engine timing and spark distribution is handled electronically with no moving parts. This system has fewer parts that require replacement and provides a more accurately timed spark. During basic operation, the EEC-IV determines the ignition timing required by the engine and a DIS module determines which ignition coil to fire.

Components
The distributorless ignition system (DIS) for the 2.3L twin spark plug engine consists of the following components:
  • Crankshaft timing sensor
  • DIS module
  • Two ignition coil packs
  • Spark angle portion of EEC-IV
Crankshaft Timing Sensor
The crankshaft timing sensor is a dual hall effect magnetic switch, which is actuated by the dual vane cup on the crankshaft pulley hub assembly. This sensor generates two separate signals, PIP (profile ignition pick-up) and CID (cylinder identification). The PIP signal provides base timing and RPM information, while the CID signal is used to synchronize the ignition coils. Initial timing (base timing) is set at 10 degrees BTDC and is not adjustable. Ignition Coil Packs
Two ignition coil packs are used for the 2.3L dual plug engine. The two ignition coil packs are triggered by the DIS module and are timed by the EEC-IV. Each coil pack contains two separate ignition coils for a total of four ignition coils. Each ignition coil fires two spark plugs simultaneously, one spark plug on the compression stroke and one on the exhaust stroke. The spark plug fired on the exhaust stroke uses very little of the ignition coils, stored energy, and the majority of the ignition coils, energy is used by the spark plug on the compression stroke. Since these two spark plugs are connected in series, the firing voltage of one spark plug will be negative with respect to ground, while the other will be positive with respect to ground. Refer to thePowertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual for additional information on spark plug polarity. DIS Module
The main function of the DIS module is to switch between ignition coils and trigger the coils to spark. The DIS ignition module receives the PIP and CID signals from the crankshaft timing sensor, and the SPOUT (spark out) signal from the EEC-IV module. During normal operation, PIP is passed on to the EEC-IV module and provides base timing and RPM information. The CID signal provides the DIS ignition module with the information required to switch between the coils for cylinders 1 and 4 and the coils for cylinders 2 and 3. The SPOUT signal (from the EEC-IV) contains the optimum spark timing and dwell time information. The dwell time is controlled or varied by varying the duty cycle (duration) of the SPOUT signal. This feature is called CCD (computer controlled dwell). Therefore, with the proper inputs of PIP, CID and SPOUT the DIS ignition module turns the ignition coils on and off in the proper sequence for spark control. CID is also sent to the EEC-IV micro-processor to allow for Bank to Bank fuel control. Failure Mode Effects Management
During some DIS system faults, the Failure Mode Effects Management (FMEM) portion of the DIS ignition module will maintain vehicle operation. If the DIS ignition module does not receive the SPOUT input, it will automatically turn the ignition coils on and off using the PIP signal. However, this will result in fixed spark timing (ten degrees BTDC) and a fixed dwell time (no CCD). If the DIS ignition module does not receive the CID input during engine cranking, random coil synchronization will be attempted by the module. Therefore, several start attempts (cycling the ignition from OFF to START) may be required to start the engine. If the DIS module loses CID input while engine is running, the module will remember the proper firing sequence and continue to fire to maintain engine operation. Dual Plug Inhibit
Dual Plug Inhibit (DPI) is a function of the EEC-IV that is only used when the vehicle is being started at temperatures -7° C (20° F) and below. During engine cranking, the EEC-IV will only fire the spark plugs on the right hand side of the engine. When the engine has started, the EEC-IV will send a signal to the DIS module to start normal dual plug operation. Ignition Diagnostic Monitor
The Ignition Diagnostic Monitor (IDM) is a function of the DIS module. The DIS module sends information on system failures to the EEC-IV which stores the information for diagnostic self test. The IDM signal also is used to drive the vehicle instrument tachometer, and test tachometer for system

1987 corvette cranks but wont start has fuel psi [50]and has spark.

The ignition module located inside of the distributor is what generates the signal that the ECM (Engine Control Module) uses to time and fire the fuel injectors, as well as the signal to run the fuel pump and the dwell signal timing to fire the ignition coil. A faulty ignition module can cause any one of these systems to malfunction.

That does sound like a malfunction with the ignition module inside of the distributor, and you can remove the ignition module and have it tested for free at most auto part stores.

If you do purchase a new ignition module be sure that it does come with a silicone grease or a die-electric compound because it is a heat sink and the ignition module will burn up without it.

To install the new ignition module first clean out the mounting surface inside of the distributor. Then completely coat the metal contact surface under the ignition module with a thick coat the silicone grease or die-electric compound and do not leave any of the metal contact surface of the ignition module un-coated with the silicone grease or die-electric compound, and be very careful not to over-tighten the ignition module or it will be damaged.

It would seem like a problem with the ECU or the fuel pump, but the common link between those two systems is the ignition module that is located on the distributor under the distributor cap, and that module is actually responsible for the fuel pump signal to run the fuel pump, the dwell signal to cause the ignition coil to fire, and also the signal that the ECU uses to time and fire the injectors, and you can remove the ignition module and have it tested for free at most auto parts stores.

Before you replace the ignition module back into the distributor, be sure to clean the mounting surface for the ignition module, and be very certain that you do use the silicone grease or die-electric compound (which ever one came with the module) to completely cover the metal mounting surface of the ignition module with that grease/compound because it is a heat sink and the ignition module will burn out in no time if you fail to use the heat sink grease/compound.

To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement.

The 3.5L (VIN H) engine's unique ignition system has the ignition coils directly over each plug. No spark plug wires are used.
If a coil is replaced on any of the 3.1L, 3.4L or 3.8L engines, it may not be numbered, as is the factory coil. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes in your guide to reflect how your engine is wired.
