When I stop using the computer for 1 minute or more, it goes to the sign in screen. I have gone in to settings and changed the settings to 30 Min. but still not working?
Disable the hibernate mode and standby, uncheck hibernate on left, then sellect never on all three in power settings.

To my knowledge it could be hibernate mode for laptops to save battery life when not plugged into the wall, try pressing the power button, my Compaq did that too. Also don't hold down the power button as after 5 seconds it just shuts off the laptop, unless you wanna do that.

Check your backlight settings, Power Settings, etc.....
You may have Vista (vista has other power settings such as a custom sleep mode which can fail sometimes to work properly with some hardware/monitor configurations).
So Disable any unconventional Hibrid Hibernation options k!

Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop, power up the monitor first then boot up the laptop. The video data will switch to the monitor automatically, check if the monitor dislays a normal image and see if the image stays on the monitor.
Also press and hold the Fn key and press the F4 key, these keys toggle the video output between the LCD screen and the video port.
Test to see if this functions correctly.
Get back to me with the results of the tests.

The high pitch sound is most likely a faulty inverter. Most defective screen are caused by a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp or simply the video cable needs reseating. After reseating the video cable and the problem is still there then :- To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions. Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case. The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills. Check out www.lcdparts.net for parts, repair service and DIY info.
