Sad to say a common problem with the dv series in general is a bad motherboard/video card.
Easiest fix is to either send it under warranty, or order a new motherboard as the video card is integrated into the mother board.

Hi
Not enough information.
It would be helpful to know if this machine running XP, Vista or Win 7.
Can you hear the CPU beep during boot?
Do the lights come/blink on on the front of the laptop?
All this information is important if you want accurate advice to help solve your problem.
If you have a desktop PC monitor available, connect this to the laptop's VGA port and press the Fn (function) key simultaneously with the F5 or F6 key (the key showing 2 monitors) while booting, to send the image to the external monitor.
If you can see images on the external monitor, then your laptop may have (in ascending order of seriousness/cost of repair), an LCD panel inverter fault/failure, a cold cathode backlight fault/failure, an LCD panel fault/failure, a graphics card fault/failure, a motherboard power management system fault/failure, a motherboard fault/failure.
Sorrry to not be able to be more precise.
Hope this helps.

I repair laptops for work and when I get a HP mini with a locked bios and unknown password then I use www.unlockbiosrecovery.com and for $20 they send me the master bios password for my specific laptop which clears any bios password set. It has saved me so much time and money!! They do most laptop brands and models. They can also clear hard drive passwords on laptops.
