My new sony xbr 55hx929 on occasion shuts itself off and comes back on within a second or two. shuts off to the point when it comes back on the sony logo on screen is displayed and in the upper left hand corner the input (hdmi 1) is shown follow by the program on tv.

It must be dlp tv that use lamp, is it?
If its true then replace lamp in tv that reached to end of its working life span and causing problem.
Your question shows it is CRT tv but symptom says it would be dlp tv.

Hi, Lamp of TV getting weaker and requires replacement. This shut off by itself will increase day by day until you put new lamp in TV. Always Buy Sony original lamp and avoid aftermarket/ cheap lamp for TV safety.

Hi The problem is dry joints on the vertical output ic for sure(commen fault with sony),ime in the uk and 99% of the time i get a call about sony tv its allways switches itself off, caused by dry joints.
