I am trying to change my NAT settings from strict to open so that I can play Xbox Live more efficiently, but I only want to change this on my xbox and not on my computer. Help?
I have this router and have just enabled the NAT settings from Strict to Open:-
1. Log into router's IP address (192.168.1.1) and enter password. Select "Advanced Setup".
2. Click on Advanced on left hand menu and select UPnP
3. Check all three boxes in window and click on Apply
4. Close router configuration window and run XBox test again. Worked for me!
it says i need a username and a password to access the site. how do i find out what it is??
No advanced settings option to select?
type in admin and then whatever your network password is
what if you dont know the network password?

This is what worked for me: My DI-524 router (firmware version 5.00) always said my NAT was "Moderate". I use DHCP and have UPnP turned on. Rebooting the router made no difference. On a whim I turned off the "Discard PING from WAN side" option in the router (Tools tab, Misc. button) and re-tested. Woohoo! It said my NAT is OPEN! Oddly, I turned "Discard PING from WAN side" back ON and my XBox360 still says my NAT is OPEN. Weird. Maybe just changing it and then changing it back somehow reset something in the firmware. I don't understand it but it worked for me, so it's worth a try!
I am trying to change my NAT settings from strict to open so that I can play Xbox Live more efficiently, but I only want to change this on my xbox and not on my computer. Help?
You just have to set your router to the DMZ and you're set!
If you still experience issues with NAT setting, try opening these ports in your router (if You want extra security make sure to select a fixed IP for the Xbox 360 and restrict these setting to that IP:
3074 TCP/UDP
8602 TCP/UDP
88 UDP
Hope this helps :-)
On the router is the UPnp option. Configure port forwarding for other ports, and DMZ as disabled. NAT should report as Open.
General options for getting your NAT Status to Open
There are four ways to overcome a Strict/Moderate NAT setting when using a router. I have listed them in the order of preference:
If you have an Xbox Live Certified router, use the certified firmware for your router
Use UPnP. If your router supports this. Turn it on. The router will work out the ports it needs to open for Xbox live. If your router does not have this feature, check the manufacturers website for the latest firmware. (also make sure portforwarding and/or DMZ is turned off as they interfere with UPnP)
Port forwarding (look up your router here then follow the instructions for Xbox Live 360)
Use a DMZ (De-militarized Zone)
The DMZ (De-militarized Zone) is area that sits outside of your routers firewall. Don't worry though your not at risk with your Xbox
okay, all i have is a modem and my ps3 wirelessly connects and before i got a new modem it was OPEN and because we had to get a new one, my NAT type has been STRICT and im reading how to get it from STRICT to OPEN and all everyone talks about is using a router. Does anyone know how to change it from STRICT to OPEN without a router and just a modem???
×
Ok step by step instructions for changing to open NAT type
1. go into the start menu>all programs>accesories>command prompt
2.in command prompt type in ipconfig
3. look for default gateway. this number is your ip address. You will also want to note what number is at the end of the IPv4 address. you will need this later.
4. open your internet and type in your ip address
5. a box will pop up for username and password. generally, the default is username: admin password: password
6. now you get to your router's settings page. this varies from company to company. i know netgear and linksys. if you dont have one of these you may have to google your company's router to learn how to port forward.
7. On netgear, scroll down on the left side until you see port forwarding/triggering and click on it. On linksys click on the applications and gaming tab at the top
8. Now you must enter the ports you need forwarded. either click add custom service for netgear or just type it in on linksys.
9. you need a different name for each port. the three you need are:
3074 TCP/UDP
8602 TCP/UDP
88 UDP
10. under the ip address is where you put the IPv4 address you noted earlier. refer to steps 1-3 if you dont have it.
11. click save and youre done
Now you will have an open NAT type when playing on Xbox. I dont know about you guys but my IPv4 address changes sometimes so if youre NAT type goes back to strict then you just need to look up the IPv4 address again and change it in your settings tab.
I have verizon and it work for me. Click "start", go to "control panel", click "network connections", then click "local area connection", click "support" tab, get the "default gateway" numbers and put it in your address bar in internet explorer and click go. You get a verizon page click "advanced setup." then you have to type in a username and password for me it was admin for username and password for password it should work then go to UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) click it. then click "on" and apply and it should work. again i have verizon and don't know if it works for all isp.
My nat stye is set to Strict and i have no problems online, but my mate who's nat type is set to "Open" can't connect to me. When i connect to my other mates it works perfectly fine.
My nat is strict and i need it to be open so i can play with my friends
To check UPnP and Port Forwarding you need to:
Log onto router..web address 192.168.1.1 and the default password is password.
Scroll down the list on the left side of screen. UPnP is near the bottem of the list. Click on it and check it's settings.
Port Forwarding/Port Triggering is several options above UPnP. Port Forwarding works for one xbox on the network. Ports to open are mentioned in solution #5.
For over a year i have been running 2 xboxes and 2 computers on my wnr834b with the first version of firmware.
I have updated to the most current firmware.
UPnP turned on both show up as moderate. With one xbox on it's open.
Port Forwarding one xbox is always open and second is strict.
Port Triggering whichever connects to Live is open and the other is strict.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
You are trying to open the NAT on the router for X-box.
For this you will need to reduce the MTU settings on the router to 1365.
You will also need to trigger some ports on the router.
For this you will need to open the router set up page.
Router set up page is the page where you can change the settings of the router
Click Here to know more about router and network
Ok i put dmz as enabled and typed in my custom ip adress thing at the bottom of the dmz page and my nat type has been open ever since! and i have a linksys.
go there. find what you want to forward for, your router make and model, follow instructions.
too easy.
NAT rating can be remedied by either turning on UPnP on your router,
DMZ or portforwarding. This site has some good guides on how to improve

Cant change the nat on my router is a motorola sbg900, i understand everything that is in the forum but i can't do it 'cos there is no options on my router that can do it ... well i mean were does it need to be change.. cos non of the thing you the people have said...are on my router's page
Ok i dont remember my login or password what can i do
I think you can enable UPnP on the router.
Open the ports for Xbox or other gaming station.
Change the MTU size.
Disable the firewalls on the router.
Try webpage on Changing NAT to open
Im really stuck on what you guys are on about.. i have no clues on what you are going on about please take it very easy and tell me exactly what to do and how to do it step by step thanks
I have done all of this and still my NAT type 2 is strict I have a qwest modem/router how can I change this? please help!
Type your ip in adress bar - use google to find your ip- when you load this up you will notice the xyxel rooter config pass type it in - may still be the default one the box if you never used brfore/ changed. when on click adavanced setup - aplie- then click on advanced again then go down to UPnP then tick all the boxes then your nat should be on open after you click apply and it is updated .... sorted hopefullly . hope that cleared up your problem
Try opening these ports in your router gui (select a fixed IP for the Xbox 360 remember it should be in the range of the router IP and restrict these setting to that IP:
3074 TCP/UDP
8602 TCP/UDP
88 UDP
Ok i put in my ip adress in the web browser and its says can not be found what do i do?
Wow that was difficult for me, but it worked. If you examine your router you will find the ip address and ID with password. If you login to your IP address it will allow you to change the settings. Click on the tab "port forwarding" and then at the bottom of the page it give you an option to edit. Click on the tab and then select from the drop down menu either UDP or TCP and fill the rest in with: UDP 88, UDP 3074 and TCP 3074. I personally didn't know the IP address for xbox so I just made the last number up and it worked.
Good Luck.
Ive tried portforwarding triggering UdNP or whatever and disabling firewall help and wtf i dont even know what dmz is
My NAT used to be moderate, but then i enable UPnp and i added the three ports someone was talking about. now my nat change to open
I sense the fact that not many people know how to get to get the IP address for thier individual router. To do this, go to the command prompt screen. When in here, typer in ipconfig then press enter. Remember the numbers that is ways the IP address is. then open your web browser. Type in those numbers into the address bar and it will ask for you to login. The default for my router was that the login was admin and the password is password. When you log in, follow the steps that the other people have given you. I need to fix this on my router as well but I can't find any settings at all within my menus to change the NAT settings.
Just turn the "gaming mode" on in Tools -> Misc. and it should work =D
Or you can try this link here - which seems to be working well for a lot of individuals.
I had the verizon five spot which if you have will not fix the problem get onto ebay and get a mifi 2200 device for verizon and then you will need a cradlepoint router i have the mobile broadband n router hook this system up and game on with a open nat

The ports should be opened only in the router not in the x.box, go to a working pc..
To
allow traffic from the internet to enter your local network, you will
need to open up ports or the router will block the request.
Because our routers use NAT (Network Address Translation), you
can only open a specific port or ports to one computer at a time. For
example: If you have 2 web servers on your network, you cannot open
port 80 to both computers. You will need to configure 1 of the web
servers to use port 81. Now you can open port 80 to the first computer
and then open port 81 to the other computer.
Step 1 Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your
D-Link router (192.168.0.1). Enter username (admin) and your password
(blank by default).
Step 2 Click on the Advanced tab at the top and then click Virtual Server on the left side.
Step 3 Check Enabled to activate entry.
Step 4 Enter a name for your virtual server entry.
Step 5 Next to Private IP, enter the IP address of the computer on your local network that you want to allow the incoming service to.
Step 6 Choose Protocol Type - either TCP, UDP, or both. If you are not sure, select both.
Step 7 Enter the port information next to Private Port and Public Port.
The private and public ports are usually the same. The public port is
the port seen from the WAN side, and the private port is the port being
used by the application on the computer within your local network.
Step 8 Enter the Schedule information.
Step 9 Click Apply and then click Continue.

6) Also assign the DNS Addresses on the Xbox
Primary dns :- 4.2.2.2...Secondary dns :- 192.168.1.1
7) Turn off your modem, router, and Xbox...Wait for a minute...
8) Plug the modem power first, wait for another minute and plug the router power cable, wait another minute and turn on the Xbox and test it...it will connect...
Kudos! Thanks!

You need to do port forwarding on your router. First, you must setup a static IP address on your XBOX. Then You must open these ports on your router setup page using Port Forwarding feature. 80 TCP and UDP, 53 TCP and UDP, 3074 TCP and UDP.
