42 inch LCD Vizio. "no signal"

I turn the tv on.....I get a blue screen that says "no signal" and then 5 seconds later the TV turns off. Pressing the menu or input button does nothing.

I fear it could be the main board. What are your suggestions?

I have a 55 inch LCD Vizio with the same problem. I am not even using the tv, only hooking up to a DVD player, and can not escape the no signal message.
It will walk me thru setup, then force me to take two choices cable or antenna.
There is no 3rd option of DVD only. How do I get out of this no signal mode and get to have the DVD work and play movies?

  • tedcchen Feb 07, 2009

I have the exact same problem started last Wednesday 2/4/09. On 2/5 morning, I called Vizio Tech Support and the guy tried but was not able to help me resolving the problem. He referred me to ITI repair company for out-or warranty repair. I called them right away but they just took my number and said they'll call me back. They call me the next (2/6) morning, and the guy just asked me some detailed questions of the problem and said they'll call me later (don't know when) to let me know the cost and time.

I decided to look for possible solutions on internet, and found this thread. I tried the recommended solution (when TV is off, press and hold the "Input" button...) after I returned home. IT WORKS! Problem solved. I have my 3 year old 42" Vizio TV back!

    Thank you so much FixYa!

    A New Happy Camper,

    Ted

solution number 4 worked for me in 10 minutes. i unplugged set and followed directions of pressing input from remote. i had tried for 4 hours before i came upon this site. thanks so much!! this was more than helpful. it restored my sanity, because it was driving me nuts!! my tv is 32" vizio and i had pressed the rgb on the remote by accident.

  • Anonymous Apr 09, 2009

I have the same problem, it only happens when we switch HMDI input from DVD to Sat. I tried to hold down the INPUT button, but that didn't seem to work. Maybe I didn't hold it long enough. Anyway, I got my TV back by hooking my laptop to the RGB signal input port with an external cable. I had to be sure the laptop was outputting to external monitor. Then, when I turned on the Vizio, I got a signal (from the computer) that enabled the set to stay on long enough for me to use the HDMI button on the remote to switch to the Satellite and I was okay.

holding the reset button on the tv worked!!! THANKS GUYS!!!

  • montymdb01 May 03, 2009

Thanks for this fix. I was playing with the remote, wife happened to be setting next to me, when the tv shut off automatically. She wanted to fix it ASAP. You guys saved me from sleeping on the couch. Holding the input button down fixed issue. Apparently I had pressed the RGB inupt. Great site.

  • Anonymous Jan 11, 2012

Just had the same problem. By pressing "input" button on remote tv powered on and showed input menu. Had to then quickly push "input" on side of tv to toggle back to HDMI becuase theres a delay before remote begins to control tv. Thanks guys, thought my baby was toast.

  • Anonymous Mar 04, 2012

My 5 year old 42" Vizio would give me the "No Signal" message on the blue screen on power up, and then shut itself off after 3 secs, before I could get into the input menu. Powering it up by holding down the "Input" button on the TV, which brought up the input list, worked! I was able to switch it to a live input, and all is good...

VIZIO 37 "TURNS ON - SAYS NO SIGNAL - AND THE OFF When this happens is that the TV is set to RGB mode. SOLUTION 1 - off the TV. 2 - Once off, in one side of the screen or TV monitor will find the following buttons:                                                      POWER                                                        MENU                                                    CHANNEL                                                     VOLUME                                                        INPUT 3-GOING TO KEEP PRESSED (both at once) the power button (POWER) AND input (about 30 seconds) until it comes out on the screen a box that says MAIN (MENU). IN THIS PICTURE shows:                                                         TV                                                        AV1                                                        AV2                                             COMPONENT 1                                             COMPONENT 2                                                      HDMI 1                                                      HDMI 2 3-OUT SOON, as fast as you can, go back to pressing the INPUT button to select another input mode or watch TV. 4 - IF NOT oppress quickly, the TV will turn off AGAIN. Repeats step 3 until you can select another interrupt viewing LISTED IN TABLE. (TV, AV1, AV2, COMPONENT 1 COMPONENT 2, HDMI1, HDMI 2) 4-LOGRES SELECT ONCE otherwise the TV will exit TV RGB mode and return to work as before. Try to do it, it works.

With the tv off,

when the tv turns on, and you see the input menu

FIX FOR THE BLUESCREEN NO SIGNAL PROBLEM: without powering the TV on, hold down the input button and it will reset the signal :) you should see the TV power itself on once it resets... hope this helps.

I just 10 minutes ago got done solving this problem.  All together, I spent about an hour before I got it to work.  A blue screen would come up with "no signal" indicated and then the tv would power off after 2 or 3 seconds.  I first called vizio tech sup. and they weren't able to fix it.  According to the ts guy, this happens when you press "input rgb" and don't have a computer attached to the tv.  That's possible in my case because I was trying different inputs off my Harmony remote when it happened.  I'm not sure which process finally fixed it, but the following are the steps I used, not necessarily in order.   --Unplug tv for 2-5 minutes.  Plug back in. --Turn tv on using remote.  When it comes on, press and release "input" button several times.   --Same as above, but use buttons on side of tv. --Turn tv on.  When it comes on, press and release the input option you use to watch tv. --When a box appears showing several input options, select the one you use to watch tv.
GOOD LUCK!    P.S.--DON'T PRESS THE "INPUT RGB" BUTTON IF YOU'RE NOT HOOKED UP TO A COMPUTER!

Hold the "INPUT" button on the remote down while simultaneously pressing the
"POWER ON/OFF" button manually. This defeats the timer.

This is most likely a temporary solution, so please check with your warranty carrier.
Best wishes!

Solution #4 got me on the right track: this is what I did to get my Vizio (42inch LCD) TV back from oblivion:
1. disconnected tv for about 5 minutes
2. turned tv on, and then HELD the "input" button pressed in for about 10 seconds without letting go. NOTE: the tv turned off as it had for days, during these 10 seconds, but....
3. The tv turned itself back on!
4. Now it's a matter of finding the right input; for me it's the "TV" input that has the signal.
--Good luck, and thanks to those that posted on this irritating issue, it saved me a bundle of cash and headaches.

I have the 32" version. Pressing input alone did not work for me. It never turned itself on. I help it forever. Then I press "on" on the remote while holding the "input" button on the TV, and that worked right away.

I got the same problem and solved it. Basically the "RGB" Input is tripped.
To solve this, you will need a computer with a serial port and RS 232 serial cable (to connect the TV RGB port and the computer).
1. Connect the computer to the TV RGB port (located in the rear panel connections) using the RS 232 serial cable.
2. Turn On the computer.
3. When the computer has powered up (you see the computer desktop), turn on the TV and before the it turns off, set the computer in Presentation Mode (you will be able to see the computer desktop on the TV screen).
4. The TV now does not turn off and you will be able to use the remote control to set the Input mode in "TV".

Hope this fix your problem.

I had this problem on my Vizio VO22L. It was giving me a "No RGB Signal" "The Power Will Be Turned Off" message when I had it in RGB mode (with VGA input from my PC). Anytime I left my PC on and turned off, then turned on the power of this unit, I got this message. I just got off the phone with a very friendly and patient Tech Support woman at Vizio, who talked to several different techs who all came up multiple things that didn't work or help. Finally, while we were talking, she came up with the idea of going into the settings menu and doing a "System Reset" to see what happens. What do you know, it worked!

To anyone else having this problem, try this. With the PC and TV on, in RGB mode, go into the menu screen with the remote (could also be done in TV mode). The far right tab is "Setup". Use the arrow keys to go down to the "System Reset" option. When prompted "are you sure" select "Yes". I powered the monitor off and on, and the problem is gone. Now if it happens again, I know what to do.

I tried unplugging the power for several minutes as well as swapping inputs, including from a laptop. Solution #3 is actually what worked. It is as easy as pressing the input button on the side of the TV. When the set clicked on, the familiar input menu was there in place of the blue "no signal" screen.

I had the same problem. I bought my VA26L at Sam's Club marked "Coaxial doesn't work" for $164.00. After reading this blog, I tried holding the "Input" button with no success. I then went into the menu and had the TV scan for channels. It found the channels on my antenna and took off. Hope this helps someone else. Thanks.

I have my Vizio hooked to cable box, and I get "no signal" blue screen, too. I got help via Verizon and cable co. IF you have yours connected to cable when the "no" comes on, take the power cord out of the back of cable box, wait about a minute and re plug. The cable box will display an odd bunch of lines where the time and channel are displayed on front, it's working on reconnection. It should re -program itself, but if not, just turn cable box off with remote and then back on. The cable pic should appear again. This helped my "no signal" problem when I was just trying to watch cable and it wouldn't show. Good luck.

You should try resetting your TV back to factory reset. Press down the mute, 1, 8, 2 and power on using the remote.

I tried for about 45 minutes, couldn't figure this out! Finally, I called my husband into our bedroom, then he too began pushing the buttons. Then I said , let me google this. Low and behold, It directed me to your site. I did exactly as "seemo" suggested, it worked! Thanks so much!

Great site! My husband thought we were going to have to choke up more money to buy a new tv on Christmas! We connected the tv to our laptop with the RGB cable and changed the input. My 3 yr old had pressed the RGB input when he was trying to be helpful and turn off the tv. Thanks again for the suggestions.

I turn on the tv and i get a blue screen for 5 seconds and the tv shuts off. Any ideas?

This is normal on vizios, ours does it too. You have it switched onto RGB input. You need to change input after it comes on. Switch on and keep pressing change input button till it changes and then it will be fine. Alternatively plug in a computer on Rgb and then turn on, you will be able to change input normally.

Hey bbendure, I have a similar/same same problem! My model is a GV42L.
It has a blue screen that says no signal t, then it turns itself off in about 20 seconds.
Is this the same problem you see?

The tv had blue screen briefly showing "no signal" then turns off. ... and I am getting the same blue screen-no signal.

If your television is displaying a blue screen or no signal message and then turning off, your TV may be at an inactive input. Here's how you can get back to watching your TV:
1. Powering on your TV and press the INPUT button on the VIZIO remote control repeatedly until a picture re-appears.
2. If this does not work, try again but press the button slower this time.

I got this off the vizio website.

I turn on the tv and it has a blue screen and no

Just try to reset so picture will back to normal again, some LCD TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.
1. Unplug the LCD TV power cord from the power outlet.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the LCD TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the LCD TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the LCD TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the LCD TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the LCD TV.

Hope it may help you;

42 in lcd vizio "no signal"

if the TV have a no signal sign which means most of the important part is missing. Try checking your connections. The best way is to hook up a dvd player using AV input (the yellow, red and white). make sure that you turn the device on and whatever input you connected the device to is selected. if your TV is a P50HDM model, the TV will shut itself off after a short period without and input connected.

Vizio GV42L LCD TV screen black when turn TV on first time

If you are using a set top box this might be caused by turnig the box on at the same tie as you turn the tv on or slightly after you turn the tv on.  If you are using compnent or HDMI inputs the set needs to see the signal as it is turned on to know what formt the signal is in.
